Afternoon Journal: Cooking, Shopping, and Hobby Plans

Journal Friday 28th November 2025

Afternoon all. The soup recipe was indeed a winner. Hubs wasn’t bothered by the lemony yoghurt, and to be fair, a dollop of creme fraiche and a load of dill I think would work just as well. It’ll be getting made again for sure. If you don’t know what soup I’m talking about then you’ll just have to read yesterday’s waffle….

And….drumroll please, Lazarus, my sourdough starter is firmly back in sourDO! She be bubbling my friends. This is indeed good news. I tried to find a simplified recipe, but we’re still firmly in, “if you want to eat this bread on Wednesday, than start it on Sunday”, and the dopamine has of course now left my body. I’ll keep it ticking until I’ve got enough bandwidth to actually commence a loaf.

Progress over about 2.1/2 hours – this is a result.

In other news, I still have Christmas shopping to do for my UK fam. Not much, but still need to crack on. I’ve been trawling magazine gift lists and top 100 blogs, and TikTok trends because I have 2 nearly 16 year olds to buy for and it’s hell out there my friends. Never have I felt less cool. Maybe I’ll do a blog with my pick of the favourite things I’ve seen. Maybe. Six seven. Or whatever the kids with rizz are saying.

Tonight’s tea should be chicken, with white beans & leeks cooked in white wine and mustard and something else I forget. TBH all I really want is a nap because the night sweat express has finally reached the station, and well, if you know you know. If the occasional meno chat is disturbing to you btw, tough cheese, don’t make me eviscerate you.

Planning a trip into Limoges tomorrow for a wander and some lunch so that’ll be nice. Trying to figure out when to go get the tree, but there’s no sign up outside Gamme Vert to say they’ve arrived yet. Patience required.

I also have a whole battalion of Orcs (or is it Orks) to start painting, so I’d better have a read through the dossier the husband has sent me so I can determine if I need some additional paints from Warhammer tomorrow.

TTFN,

  1. Send the kids money. When I was that age, I loved nothing better than money or gift cards. So much better than something an adult thought I’d like. I’m sure nothing has changed in the intervening period.
PS Sorry to read about your power surges!
