It’s not you, it’s me….

Good evening peeps. I have just removed 160 Facebook friends from my personal account, for a number of reasons. I have friends that do this regularly, but in the 8 or so years I’ve been on there I never have.

Firstly, and increasingly I am using the account less and less. My time is either spent on Instagram or elsewhere (Pinterest you know who you are), feel free to pop over to Insta and follow me should the mood take you. I seriously considered either deleting the FB account altogether, or just abstaining from it but I’ve been on there a long time. There are memories and little snippets from people that aren’t here to pick the phone up to anymore and have a catch up with which are irreplaceable to me. Secondly I find out a lot about events, theatre and concert tours on there because of the pages I follow, heaven forbid I should become a recluse or miss a vintage fair! Thirdly, my Facebook account has always been, dare I say it, for me. The places I check in, the photos I share, it’s not about ooh look where I am and what I’m doing, it’s my diary. A reminder of where I was and what I was doing, and who I was doing it with. Even the ghosts of diets and haircuts and fashion disasters past in all their glory. Time-hop is the bit I like the most, a gloomy day in the office is instantly brightened by a picture of a wet dog or a blue sky or my lovely husband.

Social media can also be a medium for drama sadly, fortunately I’ve not really been on the receiving end of that, but someone close to me recently has and it properly got my goat. So, my account will remain just that, a makeshift diary of where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to but with a far more limited audience and mainly for my own entertainment. You wouldn’t share your diary with everyone you’ve ever met after all.

The blog however is an entirely different kettle … This is a thing that was born from absolutely wanting to share our French adventures with family and friends and has grown and I hope will continue to grow, if you enjoy what you read. I’m excited that my articles will soon be published in French Property News and I’m thrilled that all of you are here and reading this, so if any of you are here but no longer on my personal FB page don’t be disheartened, hardly anyone remains. Here is where it’s at and where I hope to spend more time writing and sharing France and beyond with you all.

I’m not going to lie. I have deleted former school bullies, gaslighters, people I’m sure I’ve never met in my life, nosey parkers and attention seekers with little remorse. But also many people that I have known a long time and have a genuine fondness for, so some of this is with a heavy heart, but Je ne regret rien right? No more miniature goat videos, Esther the Wonderpig, Disney quizzes and lost dog posters for you. Somehow, I think you’ll be just fine. Xx
