Journal Thurs 14th August 2025
Morning folks, another hot one coming, but by my reckoning, I’ve got 40 minutes before shuttering up today, so I can have another little mind dump.
I’m outside, under the pergola with a (now cold) coffee, but 1st world problems and all that. Our promised afternoon storm yesterday didn’t materialise, despite clouding over and some greying of the sky, that’s all we got. I’d pinned all hope on this of not needing to water anything, but I really need to re-check the guidelines from the prefecture to see what’s allowed. I’m saving water wherever possible and using that only where it’s most needed. I’m not supposed to refill fountains etc, but given a couple of saucers with solar fountains aren’t exactly Versailles, theres no way I’m going to let the garden birds suffer.
Had a lovely afternoon with the doggo-in-laws yesterday. I love them! I’m reminded how much work training an exuberant puppy is though, so I’m reassured by our decision to not take one from the same litter. With Sheldon needing additional care it just wouldn’t be fair to him right now. He’s asleep next to me this morning so his barking doesn’t disturb Craigs early meeting. He’s just farted and made me laugh (Sheldon not Craig). If FOMO equalled longevity, this bulldog would be immortal.
Today’s journal would be longer, but the internet dropped out, autosave failed, and I lost 3/4 of what I’d written. On a race against time for the sun now so I don’t have time to re-write it, and probably couldn’t remember what I’d written if I did.
In case you’re wondering why the titles of my daily journals actually seem professional and not gibberish, I’m using a search engine optimisation feature within WordPress that I didn’t even know I’d got. I don’t have a photo for today, and there is a feature where it’ll read what I’ve written and choose something appropriate for me. Let’s roll the dice shall we.
This is what it did “Create a highly detailed, high-resolution image featuring a sunlit garden under a pergola, capturing the essence of a hot summer day. Include elements such as a coffee cup, a peaceful dog resting nearby, and hints of water conservation, like small solar fountains and well-watered plants. The lighting should be warm and inviting, reflecting the mid-morning sun. The composition should be sharp and focused, emphasizing the tranquility of the scene while highlighting the balance between heat and nature”.
Sweet Zombie Jesus…….It’s like Skynet.

Kinda scary! We had plenty of rain yesterday morning and it’s still warm, but not too hot and humid. Nonetheless, we’re heading to the mountains this weekend to cycle in cooler temperatures.

Ah lovely! We’ve had a fair bit now thankfully, and more forecast next week. We’re heading to the Loire Valley but temps back in the mid – high 20s again.
